Light Iron on White Fusible Interfacing
Light Iron on White Fusible Interfacing
This lightweight fusible interfacing weighs only 36 GSM. It doesn't increase the thickness or much of the weight of your fabric while enhancing its density, making it particularly suitable for linen fabrics.
Typically, cotton fabrics ranging from 150 to 160 GSM are already dense and may not require interfacing. However, I find it beneficial to use interfacing with delicate cotton lawn fabrics, especially when crafting soft toy parts, as lawn fabric is thin and requires reinforcement.
Fusible interfacing is non-woven fabric with adhesive dots on one side. To apply, the adhesive side is ironed onto the wrong side of the fabric used for your project, bonding them together at a temperature between 150 and 180 degrees Celsius for approximately 8-10 seconds.
This type of interfacing is ideal for reinforcing certain parts of soft toys, such as heads and tiny parts, particularly when using linen fabrics prone to fraying and lacking density.
For linen fabrics with a GSM of 205, I highly recommend reinforcing the head parts to prevent distortion or stretching of key features like the nose bridge, which can occur due to the fabric's natural stretchiness along its bias lines.
Additionally, reinforcing the fabric around stuffing openings ensures a strong, intact surface for a precise ladder stitch closure.
I also find it beneficial to apply fusible interfacing to parts like ears and antlers, as it helps maintain their shapes throughout the toy-making process.
